Window to Vineyard

I had a lot of fun working on this project. The challenge was to help the client’s faux-finish purple wall to work in the breakfast nook and include her love for all things “Tuscan.” First off, I sketched the window and masked off the “tiles.” Then I added the sky and rows of grape vines and also sketched the villa. The third step was to paint the villa, divide the bushes in the field, paint the window tiles and grape vines around the top – works well with the accent wall! The last photo shows a close up of the grape vines and shadows.

Sketched in the window and masked off the tiles.

Painted the sky and rows of grapevines, plus sketched in the villa.

Painted the villa, divided bushes in field, painted window tiles and grape vines.

Trompe L’oeil – bring the outdoors in with french doors!

I was in on the planning of this small “luncheonette” room created from 3 smaller spaces in an older home. The client was trying to decide what to do with this space – whether to build in more shelves or leave it as a small wall. They already had 2 sets of french doors and I suggested that they finish the wall by painting a third set of french doors.

On a gray day, my door is still sunny with blue skies!

This was a fun project because the challenge was to hide the vents in the lower part of the wall next to the door. The solution – build a locker and bench around it. I love this kind of challenge!

Also, I wanted to create the “swish” feeling of movement, so I painted the basketball still falling through the net. Can you hear it?

Trompe L’oeil – brick wall

This project was completed in a senior nursing home. I painted an interior wall and the wall extensions to make it feel like an outdoor cafe. The client later installed sconces and set up small round tables, chairs and planters on the wall extensions. The wall went from flat to fabulous in no time!

You can barely see the thin tape used to delineate the grout lines after painting the background a morter gray.

This picture shows how I roughed in basic brick colors in a random pattern

"Aged" some of the bricks in a random pattern. It really looks 3-D, but as you can see, I started out with a totally flat wall!
